Holiness In The Camp

For the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and give your enemies over to you; therefore your camp shall be holy, that He may see no unclean thing among you, and turn away from you. Deuteronomy 23:14

Many Christians get very intimidated by the word “holiness.” Its very connotation seems old-fashioned and abstract. What exactly is holiness? How do I become holy? For most nonbelievers, their concept of holiness is one that is very solemn and somber. To live a holy life is to live a life that is dark and gloomy; a life devoid of color, fun and excitement.

Unfortunately, that is also the idea many Christians have whenever they think about being holy. But nothing can be further from the truth. We worship God in the beauty of His holiness (1 Chron. 16:29). That means holiness is something attractive and beautiful. No wonder people followed Jesus everywhere He went. Even little children wanted to come near to hug Him. Holiness makes a believer a very attractive witness for Christ. The Bible says that God is glorious in holiness (Ex. 15:11). Holiness carries with it the glory of the Lord. “Glory” means two things:

(1) Light. A holy person is never dull or gloomy. On the contrary, he stands out head and shoulders over everyone else. The Christian who is holy is a bright and radiant person, shining powerfully for Jesus.

(2) Weight. In the Hebrew language, the word “glory” is kabod, which means weight or substance. The Christian who is holy is a person who carries the tangible presence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes with a very substantial presence. When a holy person walks into a room, the anointing of God goes into that room with him. When a holy person speaks, his words carry weight and authority.

When Jesus spoke, everybody listened: “Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, ‘What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him’” (Mark 1:27).

Deuteronomy 23:14 says we have to make a decision to keep our camp—the house of God—spiritually clean. God only walks on holy ground. Our words, actions and thoughts have to be sanctified because we can build an environment where God enjoys coming into. And when God walks among us, there will always be blessing, provision and protection. Make a decision today not to entertain any more unclean ideas, conversations or deeds that would grieve the Holy Spirit. God says, “Be holy, for I am holy” (1 Pet. 1:16).

The Power Of Tithing

And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’s. It is holy to the LORD. Leviticus 27:30

The principle of tithing is so important because it is the most basic Bible test of your faithfulness in stewardship. It also qualifies or disqualifies you from God’s wealth and abundance.

Tithing predates the Mosaic law because Abraham was a faithful tither long before the law was established on Mount Sinai. When he met Melchizedek, he “gave him a tithe of all” (Gen. 14:19-20). Abraham’s faithful stewardship resulted in him becoming the richest man of his generation.

Jacob was a tither. When he came to Bethel, he made a vow to the Lord, “Of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You” (Gen. 28:22). Jacob’s faithful stewardship also resulted in him becoming the richest man of his generation.

Abraham and Jacob prove that saints of God started tithing long before Moses gave the law. Tithing has to do with your heart and love for God. You tithe not because you have to, but because you want to. When Moses eventually came along, the people were taught tithing.

At the end of the Old Testament, Malachi the prophet says, “‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,’ says the LORD of hosts” (Mal. 3:10-11). Here, the Bible gives you five great blessings that you can experience if you tithe regularly:

(1) Your church will continue to be a blessing. The storehouse in City Harvest Church will be full, enabling it to continue discipling you and evangelizing the world. (2) Heaven will be open over you. You will hear from the Lord clearly. You can easily walk in His presence and His power will become readily available to you at all times. (3) The devourer will be rebuked. God will protect your finances from being “eaten away” by Satan and the financial system of the world. (4) Your hard work will bear fruit. Your career will take off and you will prosper in your work place. (5) Your investments will prosper. The wise investments you make will bring back a good return.

Be a regular tither every month and “try God now” in your faithful giving!

God gives us laws to empower us to succeed in every aspect of life: career, education, marriage, finances, our walk with Him, etc. Laws are given so that we understand the cause-and-effect balance that exists in the universe God has created.

God does that so you won’t get disappointed with life. Disappointment is never based on what you find, but upon what you expect to find. And when you don’t get what you expect, you can become angry and upset. In some cases, you may even slump into depression. To succeed in life, you must properly manage your expectations. If your expectations are unrealistic, you will end up discouraged.

Mark 4 relates the famous parable of the sower. There are four types of soil. The farmer takes a big bag of seeds and goes out sowing them. The farmer intuitively understands that he is not going to get a full return on every seed he casts out.

The seed that falls on the wayside would be unproductive. The seed that falls on stony ground would eventually die out. The seed that falls on thorny ground would get choked in the thorns. Only the seed that falls on good ground would become fruitful, producing a thirtyfold, sixtyfold or a hundredfold harvest.

A farmer is always fully aware of the preexisting conditions of the soil he works on. He knows that only 25 percent of what he scatters would bring back a harvest. And even then, only a third of that 25 percent would give him the maximum hundredfold return. Being armed with that knowledge, the farmer wouldn’t be shocked, traumatized or shaken when some seeds don’t yield any crop. He manages his expectations well.

Similarly, you must be prepared to deal with the “inevitabilities” of life. You live in an imperfect, fallen world. There will be recession, unemployment, epidemics, disasters, tribulation and persecution. You will have enemies. Bad things do happen to good people. If you do get surprised when such inevitabilities happen, then you are really being naive, gullible and immature. The Bible calls you a “simpleton”!

Manage your expectations in every aspect of your life. Sometimes, you will find yourself bumped unto the wayside, stony ground or thorny ground. When that happens, don’t get distracted because you can be sure that the good ground is just around the corner to bring you a great harvest.

If you're having any problems now, seek God... I'm sure he will help you! If it matters to you, it matters to Him too! God wants to take care every area of our life, even to the smallest detail. He love you so much that He knows the amount of hairs you have on your head.
Remember, there is no problem that is too insignificant(in other word, too difficult) for Him to handle. He is not just your God almighty, He is also your heavenly father who loves you! :)

Also... God is your strength!
God loves it when you depend on Him. When you think you're strong, God cannot help you.. But remember, when you need Him and seek for Him, He is more than willing to help you! He will never leave you weak and helpless but become the strength of your life, that breakthrough that you need.

Don't come by your own strength by saying you can manage this and that but by being strong in the Lord and the power of His might. Trust in Him! And he will definitely do great things in your life!

加油加油！Take a step of faith, I'm sure your whole life will change.

Sorry we couldn't give you the best celebration but really hope we did you proud and presented you well before all men. Most importantly i want to thank you for all that you have done in my life. I will never be who i am today if it was without you. Thank you for trusting in me despite you know the weaknesses that i face. Thank you for being so understanding as well. Especially in the times that when i did not follow that well.

Going into NS soon i thank God for what you have deposited in my life because i know that no matter how deep the valley is it will never be too deep for He is with me. What are real friends? I really really felt Royston preached a great word last week and even I had a change of mindset about the ways that i see things. Thank God like what Kai Sheng blogged! We had fun.. We made fun of one another but yet we still respect one another. There are different kind of people and that's why we all respond to things differently. It has been one year since we multiplied and though we may not have hit our target but i still believe the Lord is Faithful.

For a righteous man may fall seven times

Have E149 changed? Yes. Definately. Because we all have changed, however some changed for the better while others are left stuck in the past. Frankly speaking i felt that i have changed a lot and even now there are still so many areas that i need to change. But because i am a "son" i want to change. Thank God for God Himself and like what the bible says. The Lord chastens those whom He love.

Thanks guys! You make me enjoy the fight! - 6weeks.

Let's be like Jesus. Freely He gave it all away. So let's not be so self-centred anymore. Always expecting this and that in return of a good that we've done. Because just like Jesus, he did not expect the return because he knew that we still have the ability to choose. So let's cherish that! And let's be like God! Freely you give, freely you recieve! A new chapter, a new beginning. Let's write it together. It's time we put the past aside and not be tied down by it and look at where God is calling us to! Instead of searching love all the time, let us now arise and give love. No matter if man gives it back or not, it's not the most important; But let's make sure we are refilled by His love daily as we live with a heart of thanksgiving!

Where can i go from your presence?

Where will I be if i never came to church? What will i become if i never listen to Royston or Gabriel? Where did all that i have came from if i did not lay down my life for Him. E149. Let's be grateful to the Lord for all that He has done and let us never turn our back from Him and His people. Even if it is walking through fire. As i begin to pray and think abt wat message i should share for the CG on our "1st year"... i begin to look back on how tis 3rd generation live tis past one year of our lives. Many things hav changes, many faces changes too... i begin to ask myself the following questions i heard...

Is the friendship in E149 fragile?

Have E149 change?

Can we find love in E149?

We all need to understand tat no one wants to build fragile friendship? But why is some friendship so fragile?

Here are 3 factors of fragile friendship

1. Wrong acts .
a. Gossiping

[pro16:28] NIV: A gossip separates CLOSE friends

One easiest way to break a friendship is to simply gossip about one another.

The bible did not just say 'a gossip separates normal friends' but CLOSE friends.

Accountability is upwards. Gossip is downwards.

eg:

Pastor Kong

Gabriel

Royston

Xianbi

Kaisheng

When you account downwards (wrong person) = Gossip

b. Delaying in fulfilling your promises OR breaking your words

Eg: Joanne borrow a pen from Adabelle and say she will return it the next day.

The next day, Joanne did not return and say tomorrow instead.

Eventually, Joanne is not just breaking the promise of not returning the pen, but her word.

Realize that it is no longer the pen that is important to Adabelle anymore, but the words of Joanne. The Thing Is She Gave Her Word.

Therefore, Make your word counts.

Your Word is Your Bond

Be immediate to fulfil your word

c. Lies or refusing to embrace the truth

To embrace is to accept the truth

Many a time, people backslide because they refuse to listen to the truth

They just simply can not accept the truth

Eg: Xianbi disciple Kaisheng for disobeying his mum and ask him to change.

And Kaisheng just refuse to listen/accept that he is in the wrong and begin to find Xianbi irritating. Thinking that Xianbi got nothing better to do and poke his nose into Kaisheng family matters.

Do you think their friendship will be strong like that?

We say that Christ is the TRUTH, the light, the way. So if you don't want the truth, then don't be a Christian. Because when you become one, you WILL BE faced with the truth.

Let us not be afraid of the truth and be able to take it nicely.

d. isolation (emo)

There can be no way to build back friendship when you isolate yourself.

Eg: Amanda misunderstand Meijuan about certain matters

Meijuan wants to sort out the misunderstandings by calling Amanda

However, Amanda refuse to pick up Meijuan's call, nor meet up with her

Tell me how can Meijuan build back this friendship?

Thus, if we do not want a fragile friendship in E149, we got to let there be COMMUNICATION

Don't just off your phone, or reject phone calls when things happen.

Come on! There's nothing to hide.

e. Enduring type of friendship
Friendship cannot be build on tolerance stage.

We must enjoy friendship. not endure

If today, you are unhappy about anyone in the cg, then tell your leaders and let there be communication. Don't just tolerate and think that everything will be fine. Yes, it will be fine... But in this kind of manner: ''FINE. You think only you not happy izzit? WO REN NI HEN JIU LE HOR'' Eventually you are just like a volcano waiting to be erupted.

Don't want a fragile friendship? Then don't endure friendship.

f. Owning a friend .

What do i mean by this? Let me illustrate with example.

Joses and Xianbi decided to meet out to go shopping on Wednesday.

Then Xianbi ask Joses out on Thursday to study together. And they did.

And on Friday, Joses ask XB to go coffee bean with him to slack.

However, Xianbi couldn't make it and rejected Joses.

So Joses got angry and say that xianbi is no longer his friend. For Xianbi doesn't cares for him anymore, don't want to go out with him anymore.

Well, you need to give your friends some personal space .

they do not belongs to you. When you ask them out, do be ready to accept a 'no' from them. (embracing the truth)

And when they say 'no' it doesn't mean the end of the world.

Fragile friendship happens When you want to take (own) a friend.

Strong friendship happens When you give a friend.

g. take things for granted

Normally, during the week days, helpers will call their members and check out their lives and collect their feedback. Asking them whether they will be coming for cg&service.

Or you may say, my helper is only concern of whether i am coming for cg, service and attendance.

Therefore, many times we hear from backslidden members saying 'i don't feel love from the cell group anymore'

Let me ask you today, when was the last time you called your helper/leader and ask them how are they? Are you even concern of whether they are coming for cg and service?

Or did you just assume that they will come for cg and service?

So if you say that they are just concern about the attendance, at LEAST they are concern about it. How about you? Isn't you just thinking about yourself and taking their calls for granted?

So who is the one who is not loved? The one who calls or the one receiving the calls?

friends and tis list can go on and on even beyond 'Z'. bELOW are from the members present in the CGM...

h. jealousy
i. miscommunication
j. the trust within each other
k. look down on people
l. not understanding
m. pushing blames
n. backstabbing
o. outcasting
p. manipulating people .

2. Wrong perspective of friendship

I treat all my friends the same. All friend are at the same level.

eg Friends you can't treat ur classmate and Gabriel the same way. In ur attitude, in the expectation of their availability etc... Yes they are all ur friends... When it come to leaders they more then ur friends... this is how i view my relationship wit Gabriel...

I treat him as my friend and respect him as my leader

Of cause we also need to learn how to respect our friends

3. Wrong expectations of friendship

A friend is someone who is always there for me.

A friend is someone who knows my every need.

Hey if u hav the above expectations on ur friends u are bound to be disappointed in times to come. Someone who is always there for me and know my every need, is not spell as 'friend; but 'GOD'....

For...

A friend can't be wit u 24/7. But only God can , and is with you 24/7

A friend may only know some of ur needs. But God knows all things.

Well the right expectation of friends is this...

A friend is someone who there for me when i tell him that i need him. Pls do not take my words to extreme measure like to expect a friend to be there for u when u r bored. To accompany u, to help with tis and tat.. you need to understand tat it is not a must for him

So has E149 change?

Change is inevitable. In this ever changing world, everything is changing except God. Technology is changing. If we don't change, we will be outdated.

So the fact of the matter is, are we changing to be the better, or worse?

Before i answer this question, let me first ask...

What is E149? Is it just a cell group?

members of e149, e149 is US. We are E149

E149 belongs to who?

Is it.. Royston? or Gabriel? or Pastor Kong?

Answer is none other than... US.

So when YOU say E149 change, can i say it means YOU changed. Because you are part of E149, you form this cell group. So when WE all change = e149 change

It is not the same anymore, because you in the first place are not the same anymore.

Has is become better or worse? the answers lies within yourself.

Lastly, as E149 members right now, let us move beyond friendship to family.

By the blood of Jesus, we have a blood tie by Christ.

That makes us Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

Hi Guys... it hav been sometime seen i blog le... Hows life wit u all? Hey understand tat all ur examination is drawing near le, Jiayo ok? I believe all of u will do E149 proud. It was brought to my remembrance now the testimony tat Ah bi, Ah pang and Ah man share in the past regrading their studies... u guy still remember wat they share ma? Ok, it something like tis... i never pass tis subject b4, but i did it for the 1st time praise God... E149 if God can do it for them He can do it for u too, Believe and study hard.
